AREAS OF PRACTICE

Richard is a barrister of 20 years experience specialising in the preparation and presentation of legal disputes.

He specialises in two areas:-

Criminal defence work including representation in the Court of Appeal, Crown Court and Magistrates’ Courts. He has been described as ‘someone you want on your side in a courtroom’, ‘a master tactician’, ‘a fearless advocate and excellent legal mind’, ‘a barrister who understands the needs of a client and will work with them to achieve success’.

Regulatory cases including FSA, VOSA, licensing, building disputes and planning matters.

Richard’s practice has involved international work in the United States, Pakistan, Colombia, Dubai and throughout Europe. He is currently involved in a multi-million dollar civil action in New York.

Richard was educated at Westminster City School, The University of Essex and the Inns of Court School of Law. He trained under His Honour Judge Gratwicke before commencing private practice in chambers in Essex Street following which he spent 10 years at 9-12 Bell Yard. In 2009 Richard accepted a position at Farringdon Chambers.

Richard is authorised to accept instructions from clients directly and solicitors. He is a member of the Criminal Bar Association and subscribes to the Bar Mutual Indemity Fund.

Richard has appeared in many high profile cases of murder, fraud, drug trafficking and immigration fraud including:-

NOTABLE CASES

R–v-Fuller: A Serious Fraud Office investigation into international fraud totalling $54 million.

R–v-Sharma: The largest investigation into fraudulent visas in the UK in which Richard’s client was the only defendant acquitted of conspiracy.

R–v-Plummeridge: The largest criminal investigation and prosecution undertaken by VOSA.

R–v-Thomas, R-v- Bramble, R-v- Ayanru: All of which were multi defendant cases in which Richard’s clients were acquitted of murder.

R–v-McCabe: Allegations of fraud and misappropriation of school funds by the headmistress of St John Rigby School which was made into a television programme.

R–v-Osborne: Contract killing case which lasted 4 months.

R-v-Bennie: The largest ever tax and VAT fraud investigation undertaken by HMRC.

R–v-Radak, R–v O’Neill, R–v-Khan: All of which were allegations of mortgage fraud and money laundering.

R–v-Uribe: Allegations of drug smuggling of tonnes of cocaine from Colombia to the UK.
