AREAS OF PRACTICEMary Lawrenson is a specialist in mental health law and prison law. Mary regularly appears at Mental Health Review Tribunals for those detained under Sections 2, 3 and 37 of the MHA 1983. She has appeared at Manager’s Hearings and applications under section 135 and for displacement of the nearest relative. Mary has advised on Judicial Reviews of decisions made by Mental Health Review Tribunals and Parole Boards. Mary’s first degree is in Psychology and Education and for a number of years before coming to the Bar she worked with those with mental health problems and learning difficulties in the London Boroughs of Richmond, Hackney and Ealing. Mary is also involved in Prison Law and has worked before the Parole Board. She has particular success with Out of Jurisdiction Prisoners .Mary has been involved in Criminal law cases and is particularly adept at defending those with mental health issues in the Crown Court and lower Courts.
