James Ortiz Secures Three Consecutive Crown Court Acquittals
Over the past three weeks, James Ortiz has secured acquittals in three successive Crown Court cases.
Two weeks ago, he represented a defendant charged with threatening another with a bladed article in a public place. The incident was captured on CCTV and witnessed by four individuals. Despite this, James successfully advanced an alibi defence, resulting in an acquittal.
Last week, he obtained a not guilty verdict in a case involving Class B drugs. The client had previous convictions for similar offences and was found in possession of the substance when stopped and searched by police, but a not guilty verdict was nevertheless secured.
This week, James won a case of possession of a bladed article in a public place. The defendant was found with a knife by police, who suspected a drug deal had just occurred. The defence was a combination of ‘good reason’ and forgetfulness. The defendant had severe learning difficulties and detailed psychological evidence was put forward. The defendant was acquitted.
