Justin Ko secures the unanimous acquittal of a high-profile Defendant

Justin Ko secures the unanimous acquittal of a high-profile Defendant within the deaf community charged with 4 counts of breaching a non-molestation order following a 6-day trial at Inner London Crown Court. Justin was instructed and assisted by Chloe Hartnell of Hodge Jones & Allen Solicitors.

The Prosecution alleged that the Defendant breached a non-molestation order by contacting the Complainant both directly and indirectly on four separate occasions. It was further alleged that, on each occasion, the defendant attempted to initiate contact in order to persuade the Complainant to attend the Family Court to discharge the non-molestation order.

During the trial, Justin robustly challenged the Complainant’s evidence, identifying numerous inconsistencies between her evidence at trial and the accounts she gave to the police a year earlier in two separate video-recorded interviews. Justin’s cross-examination ultimately lasted more than two days as he exposed a barrage of significant contradictions in the Complainant’s account through careful and sustained questioning.

Justin further advanced the defence case that the Defendant was entirely unaware of the non-molestation order, having never received any documents from the Family Court at his address. It was also contended that the Complainant’s allegations that the Defendant sought to persuade her to discharge the order were a contrived fabrication intended to implicate him.

The jury unanimously acquitted the Defendant on all four counts after just over two hours of deliberation.
